A new development from Clariant: the nano-granules
| The natural modernization and development of processing machines, which provide for very low production cycles, together the market’s tendency to demand a general reduction in packaging weight for both economic and environmental reasons, supported strong development in the quality and physical form of masterbatches.
Clariant always follows the market’s diverse needs, accompanying masterbatches in liquid form alongside the traditional physical form in granules. For some applications, this allows for decidedly lower doses. In the solid form, there are also different granule sizes (from micro-granules to “large granules”) which are suited to different dosing systems.
Important new developments have now achieved especially small physical forms called nano-granules: a masterbatch in a spherical shape with a size under 0.6 mm. |  |
What advantages do nano-granules give us? They combine the practicality of using granules with the option of using low doses and achieving optimal diffusion within polyester’s polymeric matrix.
They increase the contact surface of the masterbatch with the PET and improve and accelerate diffusion, with shorter processing times. This is all supported by the absolute experience of specialists who choose the best support for the production process of the different goods. In addition to traditional PET and the option of having masterbatches with high crystallization to avoid the stickiness typical of amorphous polymers, there is a different range of copolymers with different features to achieve optimal processability.
Finally, there are PETG-based masterbatches often dedicated to coloring this polymer and to the above-mentioned liquids that have to be combined with dedicated dosing systems which Clariant can provide to its customers.
In addition, it should be remembered that additives must often be combined with classic coloring to protect the content. In these situations the use of combibatches, which blend coloring with other features required, is the best solution.
